CEFOI has made a submission to the government consultation on “Our Rural Future”. We are calling for investment in the rural electricity distribution grid, and the removal of barriers to community energy.

We are calling for the following priorities to be included in the Government’s Rural Future policy:

• Investing in the rural electricity distribution grid to facilitate access to the grid for locally owned and community owned renewable energy generation and storage projects, and to facilitate energy security and resilience in the face of extreme weather events
• Removing barriers to 100% community owned renewable energy generation and storage projects, including ensuring processes are clear, timely and consistent, up-front financing, and electric grid access
